Camping is one of Americans favorite past time activities. So it’s essential to have all the tools you need when camping. So having the best chainsaw for camping is just as important, as what tent you’re going to use. They are a valuable tool to have when camping. They’re really useful for if you want to have a fire, or remove overhead branches.

The first thing I’d do if you’re at a camping ground. Is find out if you’re allowed to use a chainsaw, and if you are. What are you allowed to cut. Most camping sites have already felled dead trees, that you’re allowed to cut for firewood. If you’re camping on private property, then a lot of that won’t apply for you.

A Brief Comparison Of The Chainsaws On This List

I know a lot of people don’t have the time to read thousands of words for reviews. So I’ve included a table of some of the best chainsaws for camping. For a more in-depth review read on further down.

Which Is Best For Camping – Gas Or Cordless?

I don’t think either of these types are “best” in this case. Since what you need will be different to someone else. They both bring there own advantages that make them useful for certain situations. If you’re camping on a private property then I’d recommend a gas saw. This will give you more power. You also won’t have to worry about noise complaints, or running out of power.

Electric are great for if you’re on a campground that allows cutting. Since they’re so quiet compared to a gas machine. You won’t have to worry about noise complaints. The only issue is battery life. Which is only an issue if you’re planning to do a fair bit of cutting. Which most likely you won’t be doing.

When camping and needing a powerful mid range chainsaw. This model really excels at the jobs needed for camping. If you’re on a private property, and are allowed to fell smaller trees. Then I highly recommend this chainsaw. It will handle those tasks really easily.

It’s a very reliable, and durable chainsaw. It also start really easily for a gas chainsaw. To me these are some key features for when you’re camping. A tool is meant to make your life easier, which is exactly what this saw does.

It’s not the lightest saw on the market, coming in at roughly 14lbs. Which I personally don’t mind. It’s 18 x 13 x 9 inches which is a decent size, But I found it didn’t take up a lot of room. Which is crucial when it comes to camping for me.

The Best Battery Powered Chainsaw For Camping

Dewalt DCCS620P1 20V 12 Inch Chainsaw

The Best Battery Powered Chainsaw For Camping
If you’ve ever owned a power tool, then there is a good chance. You will know about Dewalt, and how high quality there tools are. Which is exactly what you get with this chainsaw. The first thing I will say about this chainsaw is it’s pretty big. So if space is going to be an issue, then maybe another saw on this list, will suit you.

Battery life is normally going to be a big issue with cordless chainsaws. This is just the nature of a cordless. The 5AH battery that comes with this saw, will last roughly around 2 hours. This was used for intense cutting, which uses more battery. Comapred to the things you’ll use it for when camping.

What Stands Out With This Saw

It’s a very lightweight chainsaw only weighing about 9lbs. Being so lightweight makes it really comfortable, and easy to more around. I was expecting the 12 inch bar to be an issue. But it works really well with this chainsaw. You can always put a larger bar on it if you wanted.

Since it’s a battery chainsaw, it’s very easy to use. There is none of the hassle of pull starting. This is something that I will always appreciate. This will leave you more time to enjoy your camping. Instead of having to spend ages getting your saw to start.

The thing that really surprised me with this saw, was just how well it cut. It’s a little slow, but that’s normal for a battery saw. But it never really struggled when cutting.

DEWALT 20V 12 Inch Chainsaw

The Top Rated Budget Camping Chainsaw

Black & Decker LCS1020 20V 10 Inch Chainsaw

The Top Rated Budget Camping Chainsaw
This is a great chainsaw for someone on a budget. Or if you’re not really on planning on using a chainsaw very often. In my opinion there isn’t must point in spending $300 plus. If you’re only going to use the chainsaw once or twice a year. Which is where this incredibly little chainsaw comes in.

Perfect For First Timers, And The Elderly

If you’ve never really used a chainsaw before. This is a great beginner saw, this is thanks to it’s tool free chains tension system. One thing I see a lot of people get confused about with this chainsaw.

Is it’s oiling system. It’s not an automatic oiler, which is disappointing. But it’s a very easy manual system. You just fill the oil reservoir, and press the rubber bulb to oil. It’s very simple to do, tho would be better with an automatic system.

Perfect For The Camping Ground

The thing that was really noticeable for this chainsaw. Was just how quiet it was. So if your campground allows for a chainsaw, then this won’t cause any noise complaints.

It’s a very small and lightweight chainsaw, weighing roughly about 8lbs. so it won’t take up a lot of space, which again is important. Depending on how hard you push this battery, you can get roughly an hour and a half of life out of it. This isn’t it to bad for the smaller tasks you’ll be doing.

My Final Thoughts On Chainsaws For Camping

The more I go camping, the more I realize. How much I use a chainsaw when camping. I’d recommend almost everyone to have a chainsaw for camping. This is just my opinion, and what suits me, might not suit you. So if you do need a chainsaw for camping, I’d recommend any on this list.

If I had to choose just one, I’d have to go with the Dewalt, with the Jonsered close behind. The only reason the Jonsered isn’t my first pick, is the noise issue. Depending on where you’re camping, this might not be an issue. But for me where I’ve been, it is. Overall all the chainsaws on this list. Are extremely reliable, and will do the jobs you need.
